After Qatar, Prabowo Meets UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

BLOGSIA.EU.ORG - President Prabowo Subianto continued his diplomatic tour in the Gulf by landing in Abu Dhabi on Friday night, September 13, 2025. After a stop in Qatar, the Indonesian leader met with United Arab Emirates President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ), underscoring Jakarta’s bid to strengthen ties with key Middle Eastern partners.

Upon arrival at the Presidential Flight terminal in Abu Dhabi, Prabowo was welcomed by Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Senior UAE officials joined the reception, including Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Presidential Adviser Faisal Al Bannai, Minister of Investment Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi, and UAE Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Obaid Aldaheri.

The warm welcome reflected Abu Dhabi’s recognition of Indonesia as a strategic partner. According to the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo’s talks with MBZ would cover both regional security concerns and the long-standing bilateral cooperation that binds the two nations. Strategic fields such as investment, energy, and people-to-people exchange were high on the agenda.

Prabowo’s visit, officials said, reinforced Indonesia’s active role in global dialogue. “It also highlights Indonesia’s commitment to humanitarian diplomacy and peace at a time when the international order is increasingly fragile,” the statement noted.

A Stop in Doha Before Abu Dhabi

Just a day earlier, Prabowo was in Doha for a high-profile meeting with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at the Lusail Palace. He was received personally by the Emir, amid heightened tensions following an Israeli strike in the Qatari capital on September 9.

The discussion carried both warmth and concern. “Indonesia firmly supports Qatar’s sovereignty,” Prabowo told the Emir, stressing the importance of international solidarity in confronting attacks that threaten regional stability.

The two leaders also delved into broader global issues, including the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Prabowo urged partner nations to safeguard geopolitical balance through dialogue. He called for a stronger collective voice against aggression harming civilians, adding that diplomacy rooted in humanity, justice, and peace must shape a stable future.

Emir Tamim, in turn, expressed appreciation. He lauded Indonesia’s consistent stance and pledged to deepen cooperation on humanitarian and diplomatic fronts.

The Doha talks unfolded against a backdrop of smoke over the city skyline, a stark reminder of the September 9 Israeli strike. The attack, aimed at Hamas leaders negotiating a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal, rattled the region. Local authorities confirmed the strike but stopped short of reporting casualties.

This was the second direct attack on Qatari soil since the Gaza war erupted nearly two years ago. In 2023, Iran had struck a U.S. base in Qatar following Hamas’s October 7 assault on southern Israel. Today, Qatar remains a central mediator between Hamas and Israel—its role now under greater pressure than ever.
